Accompanying Persons’ Program
IMWA 2026 offers a special Accompanying Persons’ Program, designed for participants’ families and companions to experience the beauty and culture of South Korea while the scientific sessions take place.
The official program will run on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, each day featuring a different destination and cultural theme.
Program Schedule

Monday Chungju Hwalok Cave Explore a former talc mine transformed into a unique attraction, featuring boat tours inside the cave, a smart farm, and a wine bar.
Tuesday Jeongseon Five-day Market & Samtan Art Mine
  • Visit Jeongseon’s traditional market, rich in local flavors and crafts.
  • Discover the Samtan Art Mine, a former coal mine reborn as a cultural and artistic hub.
  • Enjoy exhibitions at the Art Center, the Rail-by Museum, and relax in the on-site café.
Wednesday Jeongamsa Temple & Hwaam Cave
  • Visit Jeongamsa Temple, a historic Buddhist site enshrining relics of the Buddha.
  • Explore Hwaam Cave, a vast limestone cave connected to an old gold mine, with unique geological formations.
Thursday Mureung Byeolyucheonji (Donghae) & Ojukheon House (Gangneung) Mureung Byeolyucheonji
  • A former open-pit limestone mine lake, beautifully restored into a scenic tourist site

Ojukheon House
  • Birthplace of the renowned scholar Yulgok Yi I and his mother Shin Saimdang. Built over 600 years ago, it is one of South Korea’s oldest and most famous traditional houses.
This program is designed to give accompanying family members and companions a rich cultural experience, highlighting South Korea’s history, traditions, and natural beauty beyond the academic conference.
