High1 Resort is located in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, in the eastern part of Korea—an area known for its history of large-scale coal mining. It was established on the site of the closed Dongwon Coal Mine and has since become one of Korea’s premier resorts, featuring a casino, hotel, golf course, water park, and other facilities. High1 Resort is widely recognized as a leading example of regional economic revitalization following mine closure.

The resort also utilizes mine water from the Dongwon shaft as a source of hydrothermal energy for some of its facilities. In addition, the treated mine water is further purified and reused within the resort, demonstrating an innovative approach to resource recycling and sustainable water management.
